Inspection Levels Explained

Level I — Visual inspection of accessible portions; recommended annually for normally used chimneys.

Level II — Includes accessible attic, crawl space, and basement areas; required when selling a home or after any event (chimney fire, earthquake, change in fuel type).

Level III — Comprehensive structural investigation including removal of components to gain access; performed when serious hazards are suspected.
